(Photo by Cathy Cobbs) Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley honored the force’s top officers at a Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Sept. 11 at the city’s newly completed city centre. Officer Robert Orange received the top accolades at the luncheon. Four other officers – Kathryn Quilcate, Maisha Savage, Quentin Brown, and Christian Johnson – were also recognized for their exemplary service. “Officer Orange is a remarkable example of modern policing, combining his exceptional investigative skills, proactive leadership, and unwavering commitment to the Brookhaven community,” an announcement about the award said. Orange played a critical role in a complex human trafficking investigation involving a victim exploited by a known gang member, initiated and delivered a shift-wide training session about gang activity in Atlanta, and made a pedestrian stop that led to the arrest of a person wanted by authorities for possession of a firearm, the announcement said. “Officer Orange’s balanced approach of tactical skill and thoughtful leadership, along with his initiative, reliability, and dedication, make him an outstanding recipient for the Chief’s Award,” the narrative concluded. Orange was presented with a $2,000 check, flowers for his wife, and a basket with gift cards and merchandise from Brookhaven-area vendors. Gurley, in remarks before the chamber crowd, thanked the Brookhaven community for its support of the department and DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson congratulated the “good men and women who protect and serve.” “Today is a reminder of those who run away from danger and those who run toward it,” Cochran-Johnson said. “Saying thank you is not enough.” The post Brookhaven police chief honors top officers at chamber luncheon appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta.
