Atlanta City Council approves funding for Peachtree Creek Greenway project

Key Points Atlanta City Council approved a $6 million agreement with PATH for the Peachtree Creek Greenway project. Plans for phase three of the project are currently underway, and a public meeting regarding the project will be held in Brookhaven on Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. The Atlanta City Council has approved a resolution executing a multi-million-dollar project management agreement with the PATH Foundation for the Peachtree Creek Greenway project. The PATH Foundation, formed in 1991, creates trails, paths, and linear green spaces for the City of Atlanta. The organization has completed over 325 miles of trails and green spaces throughout Atlanta. The resolution, approved unanimously by the council on Sept. 15, authorizes Mayor Andre Dickens to execute a $6 million agreement with PATH on behalf of the Atlanta Department of Transportation. The funds will be allocated toward the Peachtree Creek Greenway, a multi-modal path connecting Atlanta, Brookhaven, Chamblee, unincorporated DeKalb County, and Doraville. Currently, the Peachtree Creek Greenway spans 1.3 miles from North Druid Hills road to Briarwood Road. Phase two of the project, extending the existing trail from North Druid Hills Road southwest to the Fulton County/City of Atlanta limits, is expected to be completed this month. Preliminary design and hydraulic studies for phase three, which extends the existing trail eastward from the current terminus at Briarwood Road along Peachtree Creek to Clairmont Road and the City of Chamblee limits, is currently underway. A public meeting about the project is scheduled for today, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Brookhaven PEP Facility.
