Watch out! Silver Strand, Coronado Ave. Lunar closed due to Tijuana River pollution

(FILE photo/Times of San Diego) San Diego County health officials have added the Silver Strand Shoreline and Coronado Avenida Lunar to the recent closures of Tijuana Slough and Imperial Beach Shoreline due to pollution from the Tijuana River. “Beach goers are advised that the ocean water contains sewage and may cause illness, ocean waters will remain closed until sampling and field observations confirm these areas are safe for water contact,” the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality said on Sunday. Officials said the Tijuana River “is flowing and reaching recreational waters.” In related news, the county issued an advisory for the La Jolla Cove beachline, La Jolla Children’s Pool, North Bonita Cove in Mission Bay, San Dieguito River Outlet in Del Mar and San Elijo Lagoon Outlet due to excess bacteria in the water.
