Suspect in custody after standoff in Sandy Springs

A standoff in Sandy Springs ended at 2 p.m. when the suspect surrender A suspect has been taken into custody and an officer is being treated for a gunshot wound after Sandy Springs Police responded to a shots-fired call on Carol Manor Drive at 11:15 a.m. today. The officers who arrived on the scene near Sandy Springs Middle School were told a subject was inside a home, Officer Jerrell Greene, the SSPD’s public information officer on the scene, told Rough Draft Atlanta. When the officers went inside the home to make contact with that subject, they were met by gunfire, which they returned. One Sandy Springs Police officer was injured when his thumb was grazed by a bullet.The officer was being treated at an area hospital. “The suspect did barricade himself for a couple of hours,” Greene said. The suspect surrendered to police at approximately 2 p.m. and was being taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The SSPD asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for assistance and to take over the investigation. Greene said officers from the Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, and Roswell Police Departments responded, along with the Sandy Springs SWAT and North Metro SWAT units.
