Deputies will be stopping vehicles from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday to check for alcohol or marijuana impairment as well as proper licensing. Checkpoints like this are regularly announced in advance by law enforcement agencies because of the deterrent effect on people who might drink or smoke to excess and then get behind the wheel. The sheriff’s office said the checkpoint location would be chosen based on where previous collisions and arrests have occurred. Those caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses as well as possible jail time. The cost can total $13,500 or more.
