Inside the Gallery, Outside the Frame July 9 — This edition of Sketchbook is shaped by two conversations with curators who are thinking deeply about what Atlanta sees.  At the High Museum, Lauren Tate Baeza brings new attention to South African artist Ezrom Legae in “Beasts,” a powerful exhibition channeling protest through animal form and line. Her reflections on Legae’s work and the decision to pair it with a participatory drawing space reveal a quiet kind of curation grounded in care and clarity. Across town and eight stories up, Gregory Zinman is preparing to screen Jodie Mack’s “The Grand Bizarre” as part of the Off the Wall @ 725 series. Mack’s hand-animated textile film is vibrant, percussive, and global in scope. Zinman’s choice to show it publicly on the side of a building, for free, asks viewers to consider what kinds of images deserve our attention. Whether indoors or outdoors, drawn or projected, both projects invite us to see familiar forms in entirely new ways. Here’s to careful curation. —Sherri Movies on the Town continues in July!
