According to a press release, the festival chose this theme in an act of reclamation.  “At Out On Film, we’re turning the term on its head and making it our own,” reads the release. “Queer Propaganda isn’t about pushing an agenda; it’s about telling the truth.”  Over the past few years, governments at the federal and state levels have taken aim at the LGBTQ+ community, particularly the trans community. This year, the Supreme Court will hear two cases involving banning transgender youth from participating in school sports, and Georgia recently passed a law prohibiting transgender athletes from playing sports on teams that do not match their birth gender. This June, the Supreme Court also ruled that a Tennessee ban on transgender healthcare for minors was constitutional. A south Georgia librarian was recently fired for including a trans-inclusive children’s book in a library display. In the press release, Out on Film said the festival aims to show the world how it really is: “diverse, complex, and beautifully queer.” “In the face of rising backlash and politicized attacks, we’re not backing down,” reads the release.  According to the release, the first official selection for the 2025 festival will be “Exit Interviews,” directed by Garrett Abdo. The film is a documentary about a middle aged gay man who decides to explore his failed relationships by interviewing his exes. “Out on Film” will run from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5. Passes for the festival can be purchased online.  The post ‘Out on Film’ announces ‘Queer Propaganda’ as film festival theme appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta.
