Gloucester rushing attack excels against Danvers on Thanksgiving
DANVERS — For the first time since 2017, Gloucester took down the Danvers on Thanksgiving Day, winning 27-7. Gloucester (8-3) had a three-headed rushing attack with Jaylen Severino, Joe Allen, and Thomas Cribbs gashing the Falcons’ (6-5) defense with over 400 yards on the ground. Severino led the group with 205. “Today was a great way for our seniors to go out,” said Gloucester coach Dan O’Connor. “We have 11 of them, and they all suited up and contributed. Couldn’t have done it without any of them or their hard work and dedication to this program for the last four years.” Gloucester got the scoring going early. On the eighth play of the game, Allen — a senior running back — found the end zone from 5 yards away. Cribbs added the two-point to make it 8-0 just over three minutes into the contest. After a quick Falcon three-and-out, Severino took the first play of the second drive 60 yards for a touchdown. The two-point attempt was no good, so the score remained 14-0 with five minutes left to go in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Gloucester went to punt deep inside their own territory, but the ball was dropped and recovered by Danvers inside the Gloucester 10. Three plays later, sophomore running back Zach Fultz touched pay dirt to cut the lead in half at 14-7 just inside seven minutes left in the half. The Fisherman went into hurry-up mode and quarterback Camryn Rodolosi found his tight end, fellow senior captain Gavin Bren in the back corner of the end zone with some nice touch for his first passing touchdown of the year. This made the lead 21-7 with twelve seconds left in the half. Both teams traded multiple possessions of punts before Gloucester put the game on ice late. With four minutes left, Severino once again went on a long run, this time for 77 yards for the score, for the dagger. The PAT was blocked to keep the score at 27-7. This is where the score ended as well.
