Dunwoody 4th of July crash results in two charged with reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle

An investigation into a crash at Dunwoody’s annual 4th of July parade has resulted in charges for two people driving a truck in the parade. According to a release from Dunwoody Sgt. Michael Cheek, Ruby Liversidge, a 22-year-old from Decatur, and Finn Drummond, a 23-year-old from Alpharetta, were cited in the incident. The release said Drummond was driving an F-150 truck with a trailer attached to it. Just before the crash took place, he and Liversidge decided to switch drivers. “They left the vehicle in drive and moving while they made the switch,” the statement said. “When Liversidge got into the driver’s seat, she mistakenly hit the accelerator, causing the F-150 to lunge forward and strike a 22-year-old female walking in front of the vehicle. She was knocked to the ground and injured, but not severely.” At the same time, the trailer disconnected from the truck, causing the occupants of the trailer to strike the side railings which resulted in several injuries. “The trailer chains were not connected to the truck when officers arrived, and the hitch pin was never found,” the release said. One child suffered a broken orbital socket, while another child received numerous stitches from a cut on the forehead. The remainder of the victims received minor injuries or had other complaints. “In total, four adults and four children were injured in this crash,” the release said. “The 22-year-old was the only one outside the trailer who was struck by the F-150. “ The parade was halted for about 15-20 minutes while the victims were treated and transported to medical facilities. After police spoke with numerous witnesses, the drivers and the victims, “it was determined there was sufficient probable cause to charge Drummond with reckless driving and Liversidge with serious injury by vehicle and reckless driving.” The pair was later notified of the warrants for their arrests and were told to turn themselves in at DeKalb County Jail by the morning of July 7, which they did around 8:30 a.m. According to DeKalb County Jail records, both Drummond and Liversidge were booked and released after posting bond.
