Carrier USS Abraham Lincoln deploys from San Diego with little fanfare

(File photo courtesy of the Navy) The USS Abraham Lincoln quietly departed from San Diego last week with the Navy releasing little information about its new deployment. The nonprofit U.S Naval Institute reported that the nuclear-powered supercarrier departed Nov. 21 with Carrier Air Wing 9 from Naval Air Station Lemoore and the guided-missile cruiser USS Frank E. Peteresen Jr. from Pearl Harbor. In recent years the Navy has chosen not to announce many carrier deployments, though it still publicizes the giant warships’ homecomings. The Lincoln returned for a 162-day deployment in December 2024 and was undergoing routine maintenance and training at Naval Air Station North Island. The new deployment received recognition from former Vice President Mike Pence, who posted a congratulatory message on X. God Bless the @USNavy Officers, Naval Aviators and Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln @CVN_72 Fair Winds and Following Seas! Our Prayers Go With You🙏🏻⚓️🇺🇸 https://t.co/g5C2XTrkgK— Mike Pence (@Mike_Pence) November 24, 2025 The Lincoln typically carries up to 90 aircraft supported by over 5,000 embarked sailors and Marines.
