Titled “Honoring Black Excellence (HBE): An Experience Curated by Rog & Bee Walker,” the immersive activation served as a tribute to Black creatives. Utilizing mediums like film, photography, archival artifacts, live performances and interactive workshops, Rog and Bee Walker commemorated the accomplishments of numerous people that were announced as honorees for adidas’ initiative, “Honoring Black Excellence.” Established in 2019, Honoring Black Excellence is adidas’ platform that celebrates the work of Black leaders in “shaping culture and driving change,” utilizing storytelling, giveback programs and community activations to elevate “voices that inspire the next generation of athletes and creatives,” according to the sporting goods brand. This year’s honorees were Gee’s Bend Quilters, an Alabama quilt-making group that transforms stories of their enslaved African American ancestors into art; Jaycina Almond, a model, writer and founder of Tender Foundation, an organization that provides financial assistance and resources for single mothers in Atlanta; and Sekou Thornell, creative director and founder of Kitboys Club, an Atlanta-based streetwear brand that aims to expand access to soccer for Black players. The theme of the exhibition was “Pathways & Pipelines,” delving into the many ways that Black creativity can help build bridges — including history preservation, access creation and sparking transformation. “This was a moment rooted in love, legacy and lineage,” said Rog and Bee Walker. “With adidas, we set out to create something that does more than celebrate Black excellence — it immerses you in it. From the legendary Gee’s Bend Quilters to ATL heroes Sekou and Jaycina, this was about showing how culture is carried, shaped and passed on.” The post adidas hosts Atlanta exhibit celebrating Black creatives appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta.
